Why The Hell Does The Government Care About Gay Marriage?

Man gets stealthily taken from behind in anti-gay protest.

Alright. There’s a lot of arguing going on at the moment about gay marriage. Is it insane that two gay blokes can’t get married? Is it a sin for them to join in holy matrimony? Well actually it doesn’t make any  sense at all and I’m struggling to work out how you would even go about discussing this in parliament. How can there be cross talk in a civilisation that is supposed to define the church and state as separate entities?

There are a few anomalies within the whole gay marriage concept which have been plaguing me for quite some time. Firstly, how can you be a gay Christian? I’ll apologize right off the bat and let you know that my knowledge of the religious and how they operate is virtually non existent, but I think it’s Christians they’re on about. You see the problem is that being gay, to devout religious folk, is like telling them you viciously murdered their cute dog ‘scruffles’ and proceeded to bone the corpse. It’s against their laws (or whatever you want to call them) that they’ve derived from the bible (their how to guide on staying alive, avoiding fun and working for the man).

So how do we get gay people that are religious? Well one can only assume it’s down to how inherently stupid Christianity is these days. If you are a Christian and you have a baby, you raise it to be Christian more often than not. Unfortunately for those pesky Christians, you can’t raise a baby to be specifically not gay (actually you might be able to with genetic engineering and shit but maybe not, I don’t know the science behind being gay). We are now presented with people that are gay and for one reason or another have continued being Christian, despite the fact that their beliefs are now starkly conflicted with the religion they are supporting. Maybe their local church was a bit more progressive than other churches? Or the local vicar wasn’t quite as serious as other vicars?

So our protagonist thinks about things for a bit and gets used to being accepted into the religious community for the gay dude that he is. That’s a highly logical assumption to make, so they are totally justified to be angry when some higher authority among the church tells them to do one. The couple in question think, along with most of the not-really-but-say-they-are-to-conform Christian public, that gay people have every right to get married. It’s a strong argument and you’d think its game over. Case closed.

But wait for it… the really, proper, devout Christians think have the right to deny them marriage for sure. It’s against the bible and the whole religion is founded on the holy book. There’s no room to manoeuvre there; you either follow the book or you don’t. My local MP supports these dudes and thus his vote was cast against. Shocking seeing as an independent vote carried out by the local radio station showed the percentages were considerably in favour (231 to 37 when I last checked). That’s typical though. MP’s always say they care and will help people and stuff but in the end they don’t gave a shit and just say what they think on a personal level. Have you ever watched a debate in parliament? It’s juvenile as sin. Playground tactics.

So we have a stale mate. Both sides of the argument are equally valid but they are opposing views. How could this possibly be? The only logical conclusion is that religion as a whole is totally and utterly insane. Because the church has used a rigid business model for thousands of years, their rules and ideas seem dated. So dated in fact that it all just seems ludicrous to me. It’s an archaic form of population control which has been replaced by alcohol, cigarettes and various other drugs. I’m glad I’ve never been in to the whole religion thing and on that note I’m going to build a fatty and glug on a beer.
